6 new Azerbaijani cities have committed to fight climate change and reduce CO 2 emissions

On 13 April 2022, six Azerbaijani cities have been formally welcomed by the Ministry of Energy as newsignatories during the launching event of the next stage of the EU-financed Covenant of Mayors -Eastern Partnership programme.

These cities that have committed to work together with the EU and the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan on energy efficiency and climate adaptation are:

  • Gazakh
  • Khachmaz
  • Nizami rayon of Ganja
  • Shamakhi
  • Sheki
  • Yevlakh

After the handing over of the adhesion plaques, the representatives of these six cities haveparticipated in the first workshop to start tackling the development of their sustainable energy andclimate action plans.Through this initiative, Azerbaijan will contribute to meeting its commitments under the Paris Climate Accord (35% reduction of greenhouse gas emission by 2030).
