European Union, 2020

As part of the technical assistance provided by the ‘EU4Energy governance’ project, Georgia will soon adopt a new regulation on the minimum requirements for ecological labelling on heat pumps. The regulation will help citizens to quickly identify on the market heat pumps with good energy and environmental performance.

The Energy Community requires its Contracting Parties to transpose regulations and directives on energy labelling for a number of product groups. Georgia is planning to adopt a law on ecodesign in 2021, which will set minimum energy performance requirements.

The market regulation for energy-efficient and environmentally friendly products is essential due to several factors:

  • It is a very effective mechanism to inform citizens on the best-performing products, enabling people to make environmentally friendly purchasing decisions and save money.
  • It also pushes the market to offer more energy-efficient products, and it eliminates less efficient products from the market through ecodesign and minimum energy performance standards.
  • At national level, the regulation can significantly contribute to reaching the energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction targets.
